Bosch 18V Compact 1/2" Drill/Driver Kit
The Bosch 18V Compact ½’’ Drill is a good option when searching for a cordless drill under $100. It is a compact power drill that is optimized to perform on every day DIY applications.
Coming in at product dimensions of 7.8 x 2.95 x 8.8 inches, this drill has a lot of ergonomic features worth considering. These include:
- A ½ inch auto-locking chuck which makes interchanging of drill bits simple and easy;
- Two finger variable speed trigger to allow for close control. This coupled with the two speed mechanism makes drilling at various torques and speeds a lot easier.
- The soft rubber grip making handling of the power tool comfortable especially for extended usage; and
- An LED light that helps illuminate the drill area – making working with this tool that much easier.
Technically this cordless drill under $100 holds it’s own. It is equipped with an next generation lithium ion batteries which are capable of providing up to 80% more energy than batteries used in the previous Bosch model.
The improved batteries also come equipped with lower cell degradation and COOLPACK™ technology that allows them to carry a larger energy density over an extended period of time and operate for longer periods.
The beauty of it all is that the battery is compatible with all of Bosch’s 18V cordless power tools as well.
As you are well aware, power tools are never perfect, this one included. One disappointing feature about this drill is that there is no real way to tell the state of charge remaining in the battery. As you can imagine this is a bit of problem especially if you plan on using your power drill over a long period of time.
Secondly, it does not have a strap where one can easily connect a belt clip. Although these are small things – they are definitely worth considering especially if you are a contractor or tradesman looking for a high performance tool.
With that being said, it’s still a fantastic cordless drill. Weighing just about 3.0 lbs (for the tool alone), you can easily use this for overhead drilling jobs.
Also given that it provides quite a punch for it’s size, having maximum power of 850 Watts with up to 480 inch-lbs of torque you can be sure that this tool will work for a large range of your DIY needs at need or around the garden.
In fact it’s often referred to in the industry as the “half the weight – twice the power” cordless drill because honestly that is what you will get.
So overall, if you are after a great tool, that’s lightweight, powerful, has a good battery life and is made for general purpose usage around the house or within your workshop. The Bosch 18V Compact ½’’ Drill is most definitely worth considering.

What Are The Important Considerations For The Best Cordless Drill Under 100
All cordless drills under $100 dollars are basically power tools that will be useful in and around the house. They are most made for drilling holes and sometimes fastening screws.
There are a couple of considerations that I think you should look out for below
Ergonomic Features
All the top options have exceptional ergonomic features. These includes things like:
- A soft grip handle that ensures comfortable handling;
- LED light to illuminate the work area;
- Belt clip for hands free carry; and
- Sturdy outer casing that protects the drill from impact stresses (i.e. from being dropped).
When searching for a high quality cordless drill it should at the minimum have most of these.
Powerful Motor
The motor rating can be seen via the voltage rating and the amount of power usually provided in inches-lbs that the motor can provide.
In my experience, within the $100 range you can find top quality cordless tools up to about 20 V. With torques ranging from 450 to 550 inches-lbs.
As always safety for power tools is always key.
Good Battery life
This is a very important consideration when looking to buy a cordless drill. Most of the time this is a trade off between overall weight and the batteries energy capacity.
The higher the Amp Hour rating of the battery, the heavier it tends to be. What I like about most top manufacturers is that they make batteries that are standard across all of their cordless tools.
For example if you have a 20 V DeWalt cordless drill, it can use any 20V battery within the DeWalt range, irrespective of the Amp hour rating.
All of the items above where taken into consideration when picking the top options. However if you plan on purchasing a cordless drill from else where please take these items into consideration.
Let’s delve into each of the top options in a lot more detail.

The CRAFTSMAN V20 Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (CMCD700C1) is a really good budget option when considering drills under $100.
This cordless drill is equipped with a ½ inch keyless drill chuck that makes interchanging drill bits simple and easy.
Furthermore it is equipped with really cool ergonomic features that include and LED light, soft grip handle and additional features that make it compatible with a hang hook.
What I really like about this drill is the high performance motor that has the capability of producing up to 280W, this coupled with a 2 speed gearbox make the CRAFTSMAN V20 Cordless drill a very versatile tool.
This tool is not perfect however, and it’s best to only be used for household purposes. It does not have the capability to perform heavy duty drilling jobs. The reason being the battery does not last very long for extended usage.
Also, it does not have a slot or come with any form of an adapter for the storage of different drill bits. This makes using this tool a bit tedious especially if you plan on performing a lot of drills in a short period of time.
With that being said however, the 3 year product warranty gives me a whole lot of comfort, knowing that if there are any product issues, these will generally be covered under the warranty.
This tool is a high value budget option for occasional holes in and around the house. If that is something you are looking for, you won’t go wrong with the CRAFTSMAN V20 Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (CMCD700C1).

Cons
- It’s good for household jobs, it seems that DeWalt did not include the bit holder like in previous models.
More Info
DeWalt are an established name within the power tools industry and I must say when looking for the best cordless drill under 100, there aren’t many that come close to the DEWALT 20V Max Cordless Drill / Driver Kit, Compact, 1/2-Inch (DCD771C2).
This tool is probably one of the more powerful drills for work around the house. This can be seen by the 20V motor capable of providing power up to 300 W.
Given that it can provide such power, it is very lightweight and compact in it’s overall design. Only weighing about 3.64 pounds.
What I truly appreciate about DeWalt is that their batteries work for any cordless tool within their range that has the same voltage. What this means is that you can interchange the battery of the 20V Max cordless drill with any other battery that is found within DeWalt’s range.
Even the bigger ones that have a much larger Ah (Amp-hour) rating for longer drill times.
Although this specific cordless drill does not have great battery life, DeWalt ensures that within this pack you have 2 x batteries.
It has 2 speed settings for a high torque range from (0 to 450 RPM) and high speed range from (0 to 1500 RPM). This provides the tools with overall flexibility and range to perform within a range of multiple drill and fastening applications.
This tools is by no means perfect and it really is only good for household usage. Also, it seems that DeWalt has removed the bit holder from this model, given that it had been available in other models. This is a bit of a downer as the bit holder really improves efficiencies especially when making multiple holes with a large number of bits.
With all of that being said, this tool still definitely makes the list as one of the better high end options purely down to it’s capabilities and power ranges. You can also charge the batteries using the mains supply of 120V. Making it easy and simple to use within the home.
Many beginners generally ask the question – how much money should I really spend on a drill the first time. My answer is always something like the price of the DEWALT 20V Max Cordless Drill / Driver Kit, Compact, 1/2-Inch (DCD771C2), simply because it’s mid-range in price but high quality when it comes to cordless drills.Option #4: TECCPO Power Drill, Cordless Drill with Battery and Charger

- Sturdy ½’’ metal chuck with clockwise and anti-clockwise switch

- Up to 2000 mAh of battery with fast charger and power level indicator
Cons
- Some people claim that not everything advertised was included in the pack (i.e. the extension bit)
More Info
The TECCPO power drill is an interesting power tool and definitely one of the best cordless drill under $100.
It is packed with features such as:
- A ½ inch all metal keyless chuck, which is great and user friendly to use when interchanging drill bits
- 2 speed transmission capability that allows for a change between high torque and high speed operation; as well as
- 2 Ah battery that is capable of fast charging
More impressively however with it’s 24+1 clutch positions this cordless drill has the capability of providing up to 530 in-lbs, both for the drilling and fastening settings.
Ergonomically it almost goes unmatched, having drill handle designed for comfort, and LED light for illumination and belt clip to allow you to carry the tool hands free.
This tool is by no means perfect, the plastic case and the drill bits that accompany this tool are very basic and will most likely need to be replaced. Also which is a bit odd – but some buyers have claimed that not everything advertised accompanies the drill. Such as the extension bit.
These are some things worth considering. With that being said however, this tool is definitely one worth considering, it is capable of surviving drops from height, it has a sturdy casing making it good for use in tool sheds and around the house as well.
