Silky Professional BIGBOY 2000 Folding Saw XL Teeth
The name says it all – The Silky folding saw is a professional type tool. It is designed with serious campers in minded.
The saw blade is 14.2 inches in length which is about 2 inches or so greater than your average folding saw. It is ergonomically designed as well taking into consideration a double-fist rubber handle which provides overall consistent grip.
When folded another thing that makes this saw quite special is that it can easily fit into your backpack and/or pocket without too much hassle.
This camping saw is really special in that the teeth were designed using an impulse hardening technology therefore providing for some of the most smoothest cuts you will experience with such a tool.
This is supported and backed up by a high quality SK4 high-carbon steel blade that is 1.4 mm in thickness.
Worth noting is that this is a Japanese type saw, what that means is that it will only cut on the pull stroke, so best to ensure that when you push the saw forward to do apply any down force, reserve you energy, apply all cutting force when you are engaged in a pull stroke.
Apart from your typical pruning or branch cutting, you can also use this camping saw to maintain hiking trails as it is conveniently sized and overall easy to carry. It can also cut through the occasional 10 inch tree trunk if you ever required your saw to do that.

Whether you are a weekend outdoor enthusiast or an occasional camper, you know full well the value that comes with being able to cut branches of wood to create a fire, or build a shelter.
Now without question there are many ways in which you can go about getting this done. Either by using a chainsaw, a wood cutting ax, a hatchet or a tomahawk.
However, these tools might not always be the best for getting a clean quick cut, especially if you are confronted with large pieces of timber.
Hence I created this guide to help you make a more informed decision when it comes to purchasing the best camping saw.

What Are The Important Considerations For The Best Camping Saw
There are a couple of key things worth considering before making a purchase on the camping saw that you will take out the next time you are outdoors. I will break these down below.
The Type of Table saw
There are really three types of camping saws and each and everyone of them have their pros and cons.
Bow saw
As you can imagine, this camping saw get’s it name from the way it is built. It has a very distinctive rounded shape that comes across like a bow as you could have guessed. This type of camping saw is the longest type.
The nature of the razor sharp blade and the overall design make it a bit more cumbersome to use however when operated with both hands it can get through a large piece of wood quite easily.
Modern Bow type saws are also foldable these days, making it much easier to carry around this classical type of camping saw.
Folding saw
This is in my opinion the most versatile of all the camping saw types. The folding saw is synonymous with it’s name in that it can fold very easily into the handle therefore providing you with a tool that you can easily carry around in your back pack.

It is specifically made for trimming and cutting of branches, and the ease of storage and lightweight design make it a campers dream.
Most folding saws also have a double row of teeth, making them relatively easy to identify.
Pocket saw
As the name suggests, these are the smallest options available in a campers arsenal.
They are miniature type folding saws that can fit in a typical pocket.
They are the most flexible of all the camping saw types due to their sizes however as you can guess, you will lose out on force and size of branches or pieces of wood you can cut into.
What To Avoid When Buying The Best Camping Saw
When looking to make a purchase for a camping saw there are a couple of things worth noting to ensure that you do not
No locking mechanism
You will not believe how often I came across really good camping saw blades, that lacked a simple locking mechanism.
This is a must as it will allow you to cut through wood whilst the saw is locked in an open position, and furthermore you will be able to lock the saw in a closed position ensuring your safety.

Poor handle
The handle is often not given much credit, until you have to deal with a poorly designed slippery handle that does not give you much traction in the rain.
Always make sure that the handle is a multi-weather polymer fit and ergonomically designed for all climatic conditions typical to a camper.
All the saws I present in this guide have been vetted for the above, so you can rest assured that you are getting real quality.
However if you go and search for a camping saw on your own, please be sure to take into consideration all the above.
It will make your buying experience that much better.

Weight | 7.05 oz (200 grams) |
Blade Type | XT Toothing blade |
Blade Length | 7-1/2 inches |
Teeth Per Inch (TPI) | 7 |

Cons
- The blade sometimes struggles to lock back into the handle
More Info
The Bahco 396-LAP Laplander Folding Saw is another great option for camping saws.
It is exceptional for cutting both wood, bone and plastic. The handle is good in that it is made of plastic and provides an overall perfect grip with a leather strap that can be used to hang the folding saw by your side.
The blade is made for XT hardpoint teething with a teeth per inch ratio of 7. It has a great safety lock that provides the additional safety mechanism of locking it fully in place when it is folded.
When comparing this with other popular camping saw types such as the silky boy, you will find that the Laplander’s handle is slightly longer.
Interestingly the handle is curved as opposed to being contoured. This adds a dimension of handling and ergonomics.
It is a bit more difficult to cut that the Silky for example, you will need to apply more force when performing your cuts and this can be a bit of a hassle in the camping environment.
With that being said, if you intend on using the Laplander for pruning cutting of softwood type trees such as pine, redwood or oak, it can definitely work like magic, however if you are looking for fast and efficient cutting you are better off going with the Silky Folding Saw option.
If you are looking a saw that is well designed, great for pruning and cutting small branches the Bahco 396-LAP Laplander Folding Saw is one of the best camping saws worth considering.

Pros
- Pointed nose providing better control
- Tensioning mechanism great for straight cutting
- Ergonomic handle with awesome knuckle protector
- Easily replace the blade for different type of stock material
Cons
- It could use with a bit more padding around the handle, however it provides for overall quality cuts
More Info
The Bahco 10-24-23 Bow Saw with Ergo Handle, 24-Inch is a fantastic Bow Saw, it comes ergonomically designed with a frame that has been developed in accordance with ERGOâ„¢ process.
The steel is coated with high-impact enamel paint which is great for protection. It is better and stronger overall than many of it’s counterparts and it cuts very smoothly for a bow type saw.
What I really liked about this saw is that the safety cover is quite easily to put it back on the blade. The flanged side of the safety cover very easily folds back making the covering simple and effortless.
It is not intuitive and this can probably be improved however after a couple of tries you should be able to figure it out.
One thing that really sets this bow saw apart is that it has great user manual information, and after sale support in the form of customer service and call centres.
If you want a fantastic bow type camping saw then you will definitely not go wrong with the Bahco 10-24-23 Bow Saw.
Option #5: BAHCO SE-15-30 30 Inch Economy Bow Saw
Specification | Value |
---|---|
Weight | 1.57 pounds |
Blade Type | Bow type saw |
Blade Length | 24 inch |
Ergonomic nose design | Yes |
Pros
- Lightweight frame design
- 30 inches long saw blade
- Pointed noise for improved handling
- Great to cut through different materials
Cons
- The guard can often snap on and off, making it quite easy to cut yourself if not careful
More Info
The BAHCO SE-15-30 30 Inch Economy Bow Saw is another one of BAHCO’s flagship bow saws that I would really recommend worth considering.
It is a really light weight tool overall and it has been designed with an ergonomic handle to make the process of cutting easier and efficient.
The Bow Saw comes fully equipped with a 24 inch blade that can easily work and cut through different materials such as wood branches, plastic and large logs of timber.
One thing that I really did not like about this saw is that there are times when it is not sturdy enough and the safety guard can snap back and forth throughout, making it more dangerous to operate, especially if you are not very experienced using this power tool.
With that being said, it is an overall good quality saw and it really cuts well.
If you are in the market for one of the best camping saws of the bow saw type, then this option can and will definitely be worth your while.
Option #6: Corona RS 7265D RazorTOOTH Folding Pruning Saw
Specification | Value |
---|---|
Weight | 0.8 pounds |
Blade Type | Impulse hardened |
Blade Length | 10 inches |
Product Dimensions | 1 x 2.68 x 12 inches |
Pros
- Co-molded handle that provides for fantastic overall grip
- Great easy latch blade prevents injuries from occurring especially when it is not in use
- Impulse hardened teeth for ling service life
- 6 TPI
Cons
- The sharp teeth are still slightly exposed even when the blade is closed
More Info
For any camping enthusiast you cannot go wrong with the Corona RS 7265D RazorTooth Folding saw.
It is designed for trimming branches and cutting through thicker pieces of wood. This is evident in it’s 3 sided razor teeth making the 10’’ blade ideal for cutting through branches that have 5’’ to 6’’ diameter.
It has a very ergonomically designed latch that ensures and prevents any injuries from occurring when not it use.
One thing I must say that could be improved about this camping saw overall is that the sharp teeth do not completely reside into the handle when it closes.
There is a gap that is not covered. So you will need to get some kind of blade cover to mitigate this effect.
However, with that being said – it is a great camping saw for men and women alike and the handle is all weather making it easy to use even in damp or rainy conditions.
If you are after an all round camping saw that is designed ergonomically and reasonably priced, then you will definitely find yourself a winner with the Corona RS 7265D RazorTooth Folding saw.
Option #7: Mossy Oak 3 in 1 Folding Hand Saw
Specification | Value |
---|---|
Weight | 0.57 pounds |
Blade Type | 3 interchangeable |
Blade Length | 7.5 - 8 inches |
Teeth Per Inch (TPI) | 5 - 18 |
Pros
- Push saw style
- Easily cuts through wood
- Comfortable ergonomic slip resistant handle
- 2 position angle lock
Cons
- The fold lock release is right were your thumb will lie when cutting, making it a bit harder to get leverage
More Info
The Mossy Oak 3 in 1 Folding Hand Saw is one of the best folding saw types on the market. It easily cuts through a multitude of different materials such as your wood, bone and even plastics.
The 3 types of blades are interchangeable and make this camping saw extremely versatile. Here is a quick summary of the blades below:
- Wood blade – 5 TPI, 7.5 inches
- Plastic blade – 11 TPI, 8 inches
- Metal blade – 18 TPI, 7.5 inches
One things I must say I did not like about this camping saw is that the fold lock release is right where your thumb will typically lie. This often causes problems when trying to get leverage because as soon as you apply more pressure your thumb can trigger the fold release and the blade collapses.
So if you want to go for this options be sure to note that.
With all the above being said for the price you will be paying this is an incredible tool to consider without a doubt. It is still in my opinion one of the most value for money camping saws on the market.
