As you already know, hybrid table saws are called hybrid because they are traditionally a cross between old style contractor saws and cabinet maker saws.
Overtime however contractor saws, due to their large bulky frame have been generally replaced by job site saws throughout construction sites.
So the term hybrid is generally really murky throughout the industry and in all honesty most modern day saws can in some way be termed as hybrid table saws.
The hybrid table saw is unique in that due to it’s overall design and housing of the motor within the cabinet it allows for better overall dust extraction, it is also extremely agile and usable for home woodworkers, DIYers and weekend warriors.
It is not as cumbersome as a jobsite table saw, and it is more robust than your typical table saw.

Why This Guide For The Best Hybrid Table Saw
A Hybrid Table saw is designed to capture the pros of both your contractor saw in that it is sturdy and well built giving great sawing control with minimal vibrations and the pros of a typical jobsite saw making it more light weight, easier to move around and having much easier dust control mechanisms.
However, a search online for a hybrid table saw can often leave one confused and scratching their heads. How do you know what to look for? Is this the right hybrid table saw for your specific needs?
These are questions that I am sure you have and I will try my best to break down your options for you so that you can make an informed purchasing decision.
I have literally undertaken hours of research, digging deep into product manuals, customer reviews and understanding the pros and cons of this unique machine so you do not have to don't have to do it yourself.
Also, I recommend this guide, not only because I wrote it but I keep it periodically updated to make sure that you are getting the best hybrid table saw information right at your fingertips.
What Are The Important Considerations For The Best Hybrid Table Saw
There are a couple of key things that you should be on the look out for when making a purchase for a hybrid table saw. I will explain these I a little bit more detail below.
When searching to buy a hybrid table saw always ensure that you find a table saw within the weight category of 230 – 270 lbs.
If it is a contractor type saw you can go for anything from 350 to 500 pounds and typically lighter than 200 pounds for a job site saw.
This is important as most hybrid table saws are designed to be used by DIYers and hobbyists and are made to be a lot lighter than your jobsite saw.
This one is quite important and is often overlooked. The very interesting thing about the hybrid table saw is that the induction motor is encapsulated within the housing frame of the saw. This has pros and cons.
The benefit of this setup is that it makes the overall saw very compact, the simplicity of the frame and housing though has a negative.
The mechanism through which the motor is attached is generally directly to the frame or table top, this additional weight can often provide strain to and in extreme cases cause a little dip in the flatness of the surface table.
Hence you will need to ensure that when you are purchasing a hybrid table saw you choose one that is durable and made from a strong sturdy base.
All of the ones in which I recommend in this guide are well designed to be durable, so you can rest assured that you are getting the best.
Adjustability of blade height
When looking to purchase a hybrid table saw you really want to have the flexibility to perform various types of cuts.
Technically these are referred to as through cuts and non-through cuts. To put it simply a through cut is when the blade protrudes above the cutting material.
The most typical type of through cuts are typically rip cuts, cross cuts, miter cuts and beveled cuts.
All of these cuts typically go right through your wood stock leaving you in the end with two separate pieces of wood.
On the other hand there are often times when you are looking to perhaps cut a slot into your wood stock for a joinery. This is very common if you are cutting wood to make furniture and in carpentry application.
These cuts are technically referred to as dado or rabbet cuts.
As you can see given the many ways in which you can ultimately use your blade to cut, it is important when looking to make purchasing decisions you go for a hybrid table saw that has a high level of blade adjustability.
I will always stress that safety is number 1. Never operate a hybrid saw or any saw for that matter with out understanding the key safety mechanisms at your disposal.
Firstly, before you even turn of the mains power make sure that you have your safety gloves, and protective glasses.
Wood splint can travel very fast in different directions. Your skin is usually tough enough to not get cut by a flying splint, however you will definitely not want a piece of wood to fly into your eye.
Also very importantly, the high pitch sound coming from a hybrid table saw can be quite deafening. So I would always encourage that you use ear muffs/ear protection especially if you are going to be using your hybrid table saw very often.
Now let’s analyze some of the key safety components that you should expect to find from a quality hybrid table saw

People often misunderstand the purpose and use of a blade guard, when looking to purchase a hybrid table saw it is important to understand the purpose of this attachment.
The blade guard is responsible for a couple of things, mainly to prevent pieces of wood from falling onto your saw whilst it is still in operation.
For beginners it acts as a protection for your fingers as well. Therefore I would always recommend that you use your blade guard.
For more experienced saw operators especially those who are looking at making dado and Rabbet cuts you will need to remove the blade guard.
However always practice caution inline with the highest safety precautions when performing dado cuts
Start and Stop Switch
All hybrid table saws worth their salt have this functionality. This is superbly critical for safety. The start and stop switch does exactly as you can imagine it gets the motor going and it stops the motor on demand.
I want to focus on something else that can often be missed, the start operation on good table saws generally involves a 2 step process.
This is typically a raising of a flap (step 1) and then only being able to press the button (step 2). Furthermore the stop operation only involves one step – pushing the button.
The reason it is done this way is to make sure that under emergencies you can easily stop the entire machine very quickly.
As I previously said all of the table saws I recommend in this guide have exceptional safety features over and beyond so rest assured, however if you are going to search for hybrid table saws beyond this guide please be sure to factor in all of the above.
Now there are very few things more dangerous when performing a cut of wood or any other material for that matter than kickback. This happens when a freshly cut piece of wood shoots off from the larger piece.
This is so bad that I recommend that you make sure you have also installed a fence absorb the energy from the piece of wood that is shooting off.
What To Avoid When Buying the Best Hybrid Table Saw
Now that you know what to look out form there are a couple of things I want to lend your eye to when thinking about making a purchasing decision, to ensure that you avoid common pitfalls.
Poor Installation Manual
This one goes without saying, however you will not believe how many manufacturers I came across when compiling this guide who had incredible looking hybrid table saws only to find it impossible to understand how any of the parts fit together and how the machine would work overall.
You can guess that they didn’t make this list.
But jokes aside – a reasonable manual should at least provide the sections as listed below
- General Safety
- Assembly of the entire system
- How to perform some basic cuts (preferably a step by step guide)
- Some maintenance best practices and lastly any
- Information with regards to customer service
If you have these then you are comfortable that you are dealing with a manufacturer that is invested in making sure that you are getting the best overall experience with their machine.
Lacking inhouse accessories
One thing you should consider especially when looking to purchase a hybrid table saw is the accessory list that comes with the actual machine or the potential accessories that you can buy from the manufacturer.
This is a mechanical tool after-all. Think of it like a car, all world class car manufacturers have inhouse parts department, your hybrid table saw should be no different at all.
Poor Warranty Information
This definitely goes without saying but a really great hybrid table saw comes with at least a 1 year limited product warranty.
Avoid purchasing one from any manufacturer that is not willing to provide you with such protection incase there are any factory defects on your machines.
As I have said before all the hybrid table saws in this guide have taken all of the above into consideration. So rest assured if you are using this guide, you are getting the best.
Detailed Look at the Top 5 Best Hybrid Table Saw
Option #1: Shop Fox W1837 Open Stand Hybrid Table Saw
58 x 38 x 36 inches
Option #2: Powermatic PM1000 Hybrid Cabinet Table Saw
43 x 61 x 44 inches
The Powermatic PM1000 is an incredible power saw. It is fantastic for woodworkers, DIYers and your typical weekend warrior.
It has a couple of amazing features that I think are most definitely worth mentioning.
The arbor has a locking mechanism that allows you to perform blade changes with only one hand.
It has an ergonomically designed handwheel that is easy to turn and rotate at 7’’ which is great for height and bevel adjustments.
The overall sturdiness of the tool must be appreciated. The table top is made from precision ground cast iron, making it rugged and strong enough to withstand tough working environments.
The Accu-fence provides a high level of measurement precision.
One thing that I do not like about this hybrid table saw is that it is slightly on the heavy side, so be prepared to handle that when it arrives at your doorstep.
In terms of more technical specifications however this hybrid table saw really surprised me. The blade diameter is 10 inches.
The maximum depth of cut at 45 degrees in 2-1/8 inches, with a maximum diameter for the dado cut coming in at 8 inches.
It also has a wide rip range both right and left of the blade, coming in at 30 inches for the right hand side, and 12 inches for the left hand side.
Another really cool thing is that it has a dust collection port with an outside diameter of 4 inches.
Also I would greatly recommend that the circuit through which you connect this machine is capable of working with 20A to avoid any voltage drop issues.
I am always a big fan of manufacturers who take the time and energy to create great after sale support in the form of instruction manuals, customer service and parts list.
I must say that PowerMatic© were very good in this regard. They went over and above to ensure that you as the buyer have the best overall experience.
The only other issue that I had with this table saw is that it does not have a thin kerf riving knife. This is rather odd as the PM2000 model comes equipped with one.
With that being said it is very difficult to fault this table saw overall, it is really an impressive machine. The unboxing will be tedious as you can imagine the size of the entire package.
If you are looking for a rugged overall strong saw with great ergonomic features you cannot go wrong with the Powermatic PM1000 Hybrid type contractor saw.

It has a maximum rip right of the blade at 30 inches and 13 inches left of the blade.
The table top is also very sturdy. It is made of cast iron.
What I really liked about this table saw is that it is quite large considering it’s size. It comes in with a length x width of 29 x 20 inches. To top it off it has wings that are 26” x 30” wings.
These give you so much more space than before, making it easier to saw large pieces of Woodstock or other material.
The motor is also very powerful at 3HP (single-phase) at 230V using a motor amperage of 14.5A. This is really great because you will often find that larger motors above 2HP generally require more than a single phase supply.
JET also upgraded to the Poly-V belt drive system for overall better and smoother operation and optimal power transfer.
Overall the fit and finish of this table saw is great. This table saw also has fantastic installation manuals making it incredibly easy to install.
I must say that overall, this is probably the best table saw on the market, because it incorporates correctly the price, finish and fit and overall operational performance.
If you are interested in high end table saws then you can rest assured that this in number one.
Option #4: Powermatic 1791230K 64B Table Saw
70 x 32 x 34 inches
Powermatic 1791230K table saw is actually a contractor saw, but it makes the guide for best hybrid table saw because it incorporates many of the key elements found within a job site saw.
It’s a great tool overall, it has a left tilt arbor that offers 1-3/4 of horsepower. It has a the patented and exclusive Accu-Fence© system available for rip cutting capacity in 30’’ and 50’’.
It plugs very well into a standard wall socket and it is a left lifting table.
One thing though is that typical of it’s overall make it is difficult to transport or move, so you will need to have a couple of people to help with that.
It uses a 10’’ blade size and it can also accommodate an 8’’ for dado cuts. The riving knife as per the specifications is 2.3 mm thick and there are two that accompany this table saw.
It has a maximum rip right and left of the blade both 50 and 12 inches. The table is made out of cast iron and it has dust collection capability with a minimum of 350 CFM.
What I must say that I really like about this hybrid style contractor saw is that it is not very difficult to assemble and it would take about 3 hours if you were to do it on your own.

Option #5: Metabo HPT - C10RJSM Jobsite Table Saw
28.75 x 22 x 36 inches
light weight steel
I have been including contractor saws, now I will also include a very capable jobsite saw. The Metabo HPT - C10RJSM Jobsite Table Saw is incredible because it includes 10’’ 40 tooth carbide tipped blade, blade guard and a rip fence.
Together with these great accessories it also packs a punch, with a 15A motor capable of running 4500 RPM.
It has a cut capacity capable of a 3-1/8 inch cut at 90 degrees and a 2-1/4 inch cut at 45 degrees.
Why I really like this option is because it has a wide working table for it’s size coming in at 28-3/4’’ x 22’’.
It operates very efficiently with a soft start and electrical brake. It has a reasonable sized dust port as well with a diameter of 2-1/2’’.
Negatives around this saw is that when performing cross cuts, it is often possible to damage the guide because it is quite flimsy in it’s overall design. The rip guard tape is also easy to damage and the reason for this is because it is printed onto the pebbled surface of the cast-metal table top.
The after sale customer report for this product could also be improved, many buyers referenced contacting Metabo customer service only to realize that their complaints were not being dealt correctly.
However with all that being said, it is an incredibly easy power tool to setup and use. It makes the list of the top hybrid table saws because of it’s all round lightweight, power and versatility. I would most definitely recommend this saw.
