This helps me to identify the problem and fix it.

If I am just trying to measure the voltage of a power supply, then I would use a voltmeter. This is because I only need to measure voltage and a voltmeter is simpler and less expensive than a multimeter. But if you already have a multimeter then a voltmeter is not really required.
